Skin Cancer Screening

We perform dermatologic exams to screen for skin cancers at our family medicine clinic to help patients assess their skin health and identify any issues to set a treatment plan. Skin biopsies are performed at our clinic when indicated and referrals are made to dermatology specialists when needed. Biopsies are typically a quick and relatively painless process.

Skin biopsies are most often used after a patient notices a change to skin, especially to moles or freckles.

Use the ABCDEs to help assess if you need to schedule an appointment. Watch for changes in Asymmetry (one half of the mole doesn’t match the other), Border irregularity, Color that is not uniform, Diameter greater than 6 mm (about the size of a pencil eraser), and Evolving size, shape or color.
